Pete Cornish will give you chapter and verse why they are shite and what they do in terms of tone suck when in a chain but switched off. Jester does basically the same, but about 4 times better. If you want Sloe Gin in a box, get a Jester. If anyone wants mine, email me this is one of the staple Gilmour pedals, and it's still a very good pedal, yet I think they're crap compared to the Kingsley Jester, which is in another league.
Congrats on the BK Butler Kev, it's one I'll never sell! I feel that it's easier to get the "violin" tone with that particular tube. The 12AU7 also tames a little of the spikey-ness of the JJ 12AX7. And I would definitely love to see it as a stomp model in the KPA. Re: BK Butler Tube Driver and SV20H thoughts Post by Cousin Muely ยป Thu 2:10 am I got to say this has been an eye opener and somewhere in this box is the missing ingredient Ive been wanting along with shouldve bought a Plexi a long time ago. To me, the BK Butler Tube Driver is one of the best around both for leads, taming a muff and for a clean volume boost that adds some bite. There is so much gain in these that you actually get a much more musical and usable range with the lower gain tube. The stomp box world has much more variety than what the KPA has in store when it comes to distortions and overdrives. Get a feel for the pedal with that tube but IMO I heard a DRAMATIC improvement in mine with a NOS JAN 12AU7. The tube inside appears to be a JJ ECC83 - is this a 12AX7?
The Chandler Tube Driver was an overdrive that used a single 12AX7 tube to boost the signal. These have become known as the 'Pulse' Tube Drivers, as that is the name of Pink Floyds popular live concert video and album from the tour.
Not precisely the same but definitely in the same sort of area. PULSE TUBE DRIVERS - David used two original BK Butler/Chandler branded Tube Drivers in his Division Bell live rig.
Buying a Tube King will get you into the same sort of territory as the Tube Driver. It arrived today!! I am looking at it now in my office - can't wait to get home and crank it up. There are similarities in the circuit and the Tube King clearly borrows a lot from Butlers original design.
